The Sustainable Preventive Preservation for Historical Building

The Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning, 2015, Volume 14, Issue 4, Pages 307-327

Historical Buildings are result of human thoughts and culture, also Considered that nations have been always known and studied through their culture and civilization, it is reasonable to state that architecture is an important entrance to understand privacy of specific society that have been formed through an interaction among social, economic and other aspects. technology evolved much further than anytime Accordingly, It is clear how crucially important to think in a certain way to deal with those building, to protect, revive and work to improve its sustainability and convenience by using advanced techniques and technologies, also to measure how suitable it is to being preserved by those techniques. Consequently, reaching to a reasonable and clear method to achieve its preservation and to preserve its historical and various properties. As a result, the general axis for the research is identified with: The existence of informative gap in the current method of urban preservation, while the research’s problem is the lack of clarity in the informative knowledge that should be available to achieve the protective preservation (Sustainable) for architectural heritage. Accordingly, that shows the research’s target clearly, that is to identify suitable advanced methods to achieve the protective preservation (Sustainable) for architectural heritage. The research depends on analytic and descriptive method, which includes forming an informative theoretical framework about the historical and heritage architectural buildings, preservation, protective preservation (Sustainable) and to brief most important variables and indications for each term. Accordingly, the research has conducted that preservation of historical and heritage buildings is related to design in the first place, and it is possible for creative thoughts and techniques to vary according to the design vision. And analyzing those thoughts within functional variables, as well as temporal and spatial enriching have shown that whenever taking a decision for a functional change, the new function turns up with clarity and purposely, which comes with a clear program and undergoes to the protective preservation’s terms when preserved and directed. .

Repetition mechanism and its impact in architectural form perception

The Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning, 2015, Volume 14, Issue 4, Pages 344-360

Repetition appeared in some architectural studies as a mechanism design aiming at either hiding the repeated item from the consumer, or emphasizing it. That created a query about the nature of repetition and its characteristics that change the item from being invisible to being emphasized. Moreover, the problem of the research emerged as: "the lack of perception of repetition as a mechanism of invisibility that enables the architectural form to either appear or disappear, in the consumer's awareness." The research was divided into four stages, the first of which is introduced meaning of the main terms in the research (which are repetition, visibility and invisibility); The second, presenting the architectural studies that take relationship among those terms to reach an understanding of the technique and its limitations.
Acomprehensive analysis of these studies was given in the third part to classify the information presented in them according to distance, the ratio of the length and the width of the repeated items, repetition type, the number of repeated elements, as well as the length of time the consumer is exposed to the item. In addition to that, a number of other general factors were analysed; these factors (like camouflage colouring, lighting, and chaos) affect the perception of objects. These are applied on two selected samples in the fourth part according to certain standards to reach the final results and conclusions to clarify the characteristics of repetition and help the designer to understand it and, thus, achieve invisibility or visibility.
Key words: repetition,(.

The role of international Legislation and charters in the tourism industry Study in buildings and historical centers

The Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning, 2015, Volume 14, Issue 4, Pages 380-397

In many countries tourism industry considered a social and cultural phenomenon, in its role in changing work patterns and standards of living and income distribution. The success or fail of this industry depend on many environmental factors, natural (such as land, water, plants) and unnatural (man-made heritage buildings and historical cities).all this need different Interventions to create a magnet for tourists especially in valuable buildings. One of these are Legislation and conventions to manage and planning these environment. The research problem is the need to explore the Iraqi and international Legislations and conventions, by comparing between them we can identify the most appropriate and effective one that help to improve tourist industry and investment policy in heritage buildings and historical cities in Iraq. Therefore the aim of research is to clarify the most suitable local and international charters and Legislations for tourist investment policy in heritage buildings. This will be through identify the tourism industry concept and its criteria, and studying the most important characters like ICOMOS charters, finally drive findings and conclusions.

The Effect Of Smart Growth Principles on Affordable Housing

The Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning, 2015, Volume 14, Issue 4, Pages 328-343

The concept affordable housing deals with affording adequate housing to a moderate and low income households. The research defined affordable housing as housing deals with moderate and low income households (60%-80% AMI) that housing costs don’t exceed (30%) of their annual income (renting or owning) , while smart growth is defined as a development that contains a set of principles related to compact design and affordable housing .The research problem is embodied as (a knowledge gap about the effects of smart growth principles at a micro scale on the costs of affordable housing). The research built a theoretical framework including both of affordable housing and smart growth concepts. It included two terms, the first one was the ( smart growth principals) , and the second one was ( the smart growth at a micro scale (community)). The measurement included indicators driven from the theoretical framework, which had been applied on three national, Arabic and local projects.
Finally the research finding showed different results varied between the different projects and the most effective principal was (affordable housing choices).ی).

The Impact of Event in the Context and Response of Architectural Act

The Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning, 2015, Volume 14, Issue 4, Pages 361-379

The research philosophically deals with objects, about how the Architectural act represents many acts in the fact of context. The research problem is how the architectural act was responding to the event that happened in the context. The research hypothesis is: there is a relationship between strategies of reading (explanation, interpretation, and deconstruction) and strategies of response (animation, renewal, and reform).
The plan of the research includes two parts: first part includes knowledge framework about; event, response, and architectural act, second part includes analysis of terms and ideas of many architects. According to first part, the event, response, and architectural act is a philosophical concept, each of them can read another term, and became an event.
The architectural act had a chance of physical event documentation in context, and it is one of main methods in society culture building. There are some conclusions, the main one is that every architect has many readings of event and many responses at the same time, according to that there are verity in architectural acts. There is more than a single state between event reading and response kind because of the philosophical interpenetration between them. The contemporary Iraqi architecture fact needs to clearness, frankness and honesty in response of architects to build architectural act.ی.

Concept of the Sense of Control for Wellness Supportive Design [Theory in the Interior Spaces of Senior Living]

The Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning, 2015, Volume 14, Issue 4, Pages 398-415

Seniors represent an important category in any society being one of the most important institutions of community, Architects, planners, psychologists and sociologists have taken into account major considerations when designing the interior spaces in health institutions to help reinforce a curing environment. The research problem identified by the lack of a clear perception of the concept of sense of control within social support of supportive wellness design theory, in relation to internal space elements and their role in promoting recovery within the atmosphere of the internal environment of the elderly residence, the main hypothesis of the research, which were represented by {The elements design of internal spaces that achieve a sense of control within social support contribute in promoting the recovery of elderly residents in care homes. In attempt to find a clear vision a theoretical framework has been set up first, applied then to selected architectural environment in order to verify the hypothesis adopted in this research and to infer the influence of the wellness stimuli hoping to get an ideal architectural design for the future building of seniors living. Where research focused on two models of the theory of reinforcement recovery within the physical environment of the nursing homes :Enhance the way finding system; Enhance control of sensory stimuli systems. The results of the analysis shows the important actors of the internal space elements in promoting recovery within the atmosphere of the internal environments of the senior living. Finally displayed some of the conclusions and recommendations of all.
