Translation and ArchitectureA study of translation act in the concept transport for the mental auction oftext's meanings and it's reflects in architecture

The Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning, 2006, Volume 6, Issue 9, Pages 88-111

The Architectural theses are focus on study of the parallel concept’s for architecture in it’s direction physical types to benefit fromit in the architectural use without go toward study of maintains the analogical operational nature in the concepts and benefited from it in architecture.
The research aim to study the concept (translation) through analysis and understand the continuity nature for the concept in the axes of the mental transport operation for icon’s between mead and benefit from that in the formlation .of the analogic model which have operational dimension serve architecture field by discovered the same sides in the research steps.
The research came in many axes:-The first submitted the general knowledge frame for (translation) and it’s location in the cultural exchange and knowledge dialog zones. The second focus on clear the translation act in the meaning tansport by two steps. Then the third go to build the knowldge analogical model for translation in architecture and the forth give the conclusion which declare the invisible dimensions for transformation and deal with the creative side for deformation in transformation the meaning

Contrast in Urban Environment

The Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning, 2006, Volume 6, Issue 9, Pages 247-270

This phenomenon is one of main important concept in architecture and urban environment. Its importance came from its interlocking with other concepts such as contradiction, ambiguity, juxtaposition and paradox, for that this research came to empathize its role in the urban environment. The research starts with historic view also explain the contrast in physiological, architectural and environmental studies, after that the research studied gestalt theory and used it to define the contrast, also in determining the framework of the research.
The research problem was, there is no scientific framework for contrast in urban environment, for that the research aim was determine scientific framework for studying the contrast effect on the sense experience in urban environment, and practical in local modern urban environment to know how the contrast affected on the human psychology in urban environment, and how this empirical sense be more richness.
After that, the framework had been used in practical study in local modern urban environment through levels, elements, and methods of contrast, then the research reached its conclusions, that the contrast effect on the human psychology in urban environment through the contrast on the whole, part and element levels and the contrast elements were primary and secondary, and its accomplishing on the whole is through discontinues, while on the parts is through different.

Analogy In ArchitectureStudy Of Conceptual Act on the Designing Dimension Of Concept in theContemporary Architectural thoughts

The Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning, 2006, Volume 6, Issue 9, Pages 323-350

Analogy in architecture has been studied by various researchers especially in fields related to creativity and the in conceptual content of signs and symbols within the various architectural contexts. This paper approaches analogy from design aspects and its application in design quality. To achieve its objectives the paper covers theoretical background which is related to existing studies with specific reference to analogy. The second step, covers a number of studies from which a hypothesis to build up a framework that addresses the re search problem with some emphasis on symbols.
The paper presents an adopted design model of analogy in the design process and presents a set of conclusions, primly, related to this topic and its impact on design and designers.

Coherence in the Fractal City

The Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning, 2006, Volume 6, Issue 9, Pages 63-87

This research is a second part of paper about the Fractal City. The research studies the coherence phenomenon in this city, which is one of its characters.
The paper connects the urban coherence with the geometrical coherence through the theory of complexity which says that the large scale complex which is assembled from tightly interacting subunits on many different levels of scale is in a hierarchy going down to the natural structure of material. Also through the connection with the rules of geometrical coherence which are, the coupling, variety, boundaries, forces, organization, hierarchy, interdependency and decomposition.
The case study was a set of Arabic traditional cities, such as Old Al-Rusafah,Old Aleppo, Old San’a, Casbah of Algeria. The research hypothesis was that these cities have the same rules of geometrical coherence.
The research used the descriptive analytical methods. Its findings was that these cities are coherence in the treatment of urban fabric and elevations, also they owned the character of the geometrical coherence, and they are complex whole resulted from tightly interacted subunits on different hierarchy.
